This simple, nourishing recipe brings all the warmth and comfort of my childhood, my grandmother’s kitchen, the cool Midwestern air, the apple picking, and the grounding ritual of fall. This recipe is simple to make, deeply soothing to the digestive system, and endlessly versatile.
Ingredients:
2 apples and 2 pears, peeled (if desired), cored, and chopped
½ cup water
1 tsp ground cinnamon
Pinch of clove or nutmeg (optional)
1 tsp grated fresh ginger (optional, but lovely)
Splash of lemon juice
Instructions:
Add all ingredients to a saucepan.
Simmer over low heat for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the fruit is soft and fragrant.
Serve warm and enjoy with:
Toasted walnuts or pecans
A dollop of whipped cream or coconut cream
Over oats, yogurt, or even a scoop of vanilla ice cream
